Dinosaurs Galore!

We are having great fun in Kindergarten this month with dinosaurs!

Kindergarten Homework:
*Finish homework duotang and game by Friday.
*Read a book each night (I have started sending "word bags" home this week as well on a rotational basis. If your child has a "word bag", he or she needs to try to sound out or read the words, then return it the next day so the next child can have a turn.)
*Practice sounds and tricky words: there, they, can

Elementary Drama:
*Congratulations to those 21 lucky students who have parts in our upcoming play "Gingerbread Girl". We would have loved to have kept all of you, but it is simply impossible to take a cast of 50 away to perform, when you are dealing with the ferry, traveling and supervision. If you didn't get a part this year, please come back to drama club again in the fall (Drama club runs in the fall, followed by try-outs in January, and then play practice until the drama festival in the spring.)
*Practice will continue to be on Wednesdays from 3-4pm for those in the cast of Gingerbread Girl.

Elementary Dance Club:
*Tuesday from 3-3:45pm. We have started learning a new dance!

Drama Try-Outs!

Kindergarten Homework:
*Practice tricky words: said, here, it
*Review sounds at least twice a week.
*Read a book each night. (Please send reading bag each day, even if something happened and you didn't get to read the book.)
*Finish homework duotang and game by Friday.

Elementary Drama try-outs were from 3-4pm today. Thank you to all who tried-out. Everyone gave it their best shot, and we are very proud of you! This was the hardest year yet to pick people for parts. We had so many great actors and actresses. Hopefully, we will post the cast list on Friday. If you didn't get a part this year, please come back and join drama club again next year.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school. I hope everyone had a great Christmas break! We will have Show and Tell next Friday, so start thinking about what you are going to bring and tell us about.

Kindergarten Homework:

*Review sounds at least twice a week.
*Read a book each night. (Please send reading bag each day, even if something happened and you didn't get to read the book.)
*Finish homework duotang by Friday.

Elementary Drama practice today from 3-4pm. This will be our last day for Drama games and activities. Next week, we will have try-outs for our next play, entitled "Gingerbread Girl". This play has 20-25 parts, so unfortunately, not everyone will be able to get a part this year.

For one of our dinosaur projects this month, we need long rolling paper tubes. If you have any left over from Christmas wrapping, could you please send them in.

Fire Chief for the Day!

Congratulations, Jaykell, on winning "Fire Chief for the Day" for the province of New Brunswick. In October, all of the students brought home a Fire Safety Gazette. One of the activities inside was a ballot to fill out and return to your teacher. We mailed them in at the beginning of November, and Jaykell's name was chosen in the draw, for the whole province. Wow!

Today, our classroom was visited by Benoit Laroche, our provincial Fire Marshall, Jeff Cross - St. Andrew's Fire Chief and one of the organizers of the fire safety campaign, Fire Chief Colin Bagley, Deputy Fire Chief Phillip Brown, Mayor Dennis Green, and several grand manan fire fighters. Today's visit and presentation was a surprise for the whole class! Jaykell was presented with his awards and prizes, and all the students in our kindergarten class also received a fire hat, and several fun items. We then had pizza and cake and ice cream for lunch, and then headed to the fire station for a tour there (both Kindergarten and K-2 Jones went to the fire station). Jaykell even got to wear the fireman's uniform! Before we left, we were given one more surprise - Santa was there to hand out treats! What a great afternoon!

Kindergarten Homework:
*Finish homework duotang by Friday.
*Practice sounds and tricky words each night. (We will finish the last of the sounds this week.)
*Read a book each night.
*Please make sure all books are back before Friday.

Upcoming Events:
*Santa Hat Day on Wednesday.
*Middle and High School Concert at 7pm on Wednesday.
*Friday is the last day before Christmas holidays.
*Santa Claus Parade at 6pm on December 19th.
*After Christmas, the students do not return to school until Wednesday, January 6th (The teachers return on Monday, January 4th), so you have an extra 2 days of vacation!
