Welcome to Week 2!

We practiced Bus Evacuation Monday morning.

This week we have started learning our sounds using Jolly Phonics. Each night (4 days a week), students will bring home their sounds duotang and book. Please just take a couple of minutes each night and have your child tell you the sounds in the books (both using the picture clue in the duotang, and using just the letter in the half scribbler). This is also a good time to review the names of the letters as well.

Upcoming Events:
*Wear the color on the calendar each day this month.
*Meet Lars, our school mascot, on Thursday, Sept. 15th.
*GMCS Cinema presents "Ice Age 5" on Friday, Sept. 16th at 7pm. Cost is $5.
*Terry Fox Run at school on Friday, Sept. 23rd. If you have paid your $20 student fee, this includes a dollar for the Terry Fox run. If you would like to send more you may, but you certainly don't have to.
*Happy Birthday to Connor on Saturday, Sept. 24th.
*Show and Tell on Thursday, Sept. 29th at 1:20pm.
*Assembly on Sept. 30th at 1:20pm (our class will be performing a couple of poems) and wear Blue and Gold (the whole school).

We had a great first day of kindergarten!

We had lots of fun on our first day of kindergarten! It looks like it's going to be a great year!

We are lucky this fall to have Miss Ells doing her student teaching with us, and we also have Mrs. Brown as an EA in our room most of the day.

I know there was a lot of information that came home in the Agenda's today. Please fill out anything that requires it and send it back to school as soon as you can, and the rest is yours to keep at home to peruse at your leisure. Also, please don't forget to send the $20 student fee as soon as you can.

The students made out well today changing their shoes (although some really didn't want to leave their indoor shoes here when they went home) and eating in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is open, but I would really recommend waiting at least a month before you let your kindergarten child buy lunch. We have a limited time to eat, and if they spend half of the time in the line-up, then they really feel rushed.

Last Week of School!

Last Week of School Reminders:

*No Cafeteria service all week, so bring a lunch

Monday:

·        Regular day of school.

·        All library books and reading bags should be turned in.

Tuesday:

·        Field Trip to the Whale Research Center and Pettes Cove Beach from 9-10:30 for Mrs. Jones’ class. Please put on sunscreen before you come to school, and bring a bag to collect treasures at the beach.

·        K-8 End of the Year Bash on the Field from 11:30-1:30. Free hotdog and drink.

Wednesday:

·        Dismissal at 11am because of Graduation at 12 noon.

 Thursday:

·        K-2 Field Trip to Saint John to see “Finding Dory”. Meet where you walk on to the ferry at 6:45am. Don’t forget to eat or bring breakfast, and bring a lunch to eat on the way home. We will not be going in the play room, so bring something to do on the ferry.

Friday:

·        Last day of School! It is only a half day, and busses will probably leave around 12 noon. You can stay for the whole morning for some play time and to help sort, organize and clean the classroom, or you can just drop in with you parent to pick up your report card. Although tentative class lists are made for next year, we are not releasing any names until we are back to school at the end of August because so many classes are at or very near maximum numbers and we expect changes to occur over the summer.

Have a great summer!
